Opportunity: Four Taskforce Members Needed for New Professional Coaching Portal »

The Professional Coaching Portal started in May 2007 to build the awareness of the Coaching profession as an important competency, employable skill and discipline in traditional academia; and to develop a center for learning and teaching resources in the various sub-categories of Professional Coaching. The Portal is a volunteer project through academia-based MERLOT.org (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching). The leader of the Taskforce, an ICA Alumni, has built a high-quality collection of resources pertaining to this growing profession and discipline. [See: http://professionalcoaching.merlot.org/]

Four positions are available for immediate start as Taskforce Members to continually build this collection of materials for Professional Coaches worldwide and the learning and education community to access and utilise. The collection is near a sufficient number for “peer reviewing”, afterwards which the Taskforce will evolve into an Editorial Board and select “worthy materials” to evaluate and write reviews. The selected members will receive orientation and training in the peer reviewing model and process via Webinar.

Benefits: Develop your Coaching knowledge and skills!

The volunteer position is a great learning opportunity for those passionate about education, training, continuous learning and knowledge sharing. It is also a way to gain experience in editorial reviewing; and get involved as a pioneer in bringing coaching to the academia world.

  • Learn more about coaching tools, techniques and models as you research within your niche or area(s) of interest in the Coaching profession.
  • Receive training on how to conduct peer reviews and build experience being on an Editorial Board.
  • Build your professional network: Share advice and expertise about professional coaching and education with expert colleagues.
  • Be recognized for your contributions to quality education: Submit your own original coaching models, tools, etc.
  • Build expertise and online curricula/training materials to help advance your career.

Commitment: Approx. four hours per week for six months. This can be extended thereafter if desired.

Alumni Strategy + Action Meeting #2London Friday 22nd 10:00 AM
Hong Kong Friday 22nd 6.00 PM
Sydney Friday 22nd 9:00 PM

1. In Attendance

Marianna Florea - Belgium
Urusla Goh - Switzerland
Joanne Hwa - Switzerland
Limor Shapiro – Israel

2. Promote the school and the brand - in all countries

Idea: ICA has a very clear language - we should get a group together who know what that language and tell the story about ICA. Maybe gather people face to face in dif locations

Idea: In every country there is an ICF chapter – why not present the new brand and the school in those places

ACTION: Robyn to talk to Limor further about her ideas on storytelling and how that might promote the ICA brand

3. Structure of Alumni

Approach: We should be smart and keep it simple - we are all very busy and we are all involved in so many organisations”

Idea: Perhaps regional chapters according to timezones. So maybe chapters could take turns to organise everything. Every month a dif chapter will lead the Alumni

Question: Why do people get involved in Alumni chapters – to network, to learn from each other - so there has to be a way to do that. People need to get something out of it

4. Communities of Practice for Alumni

Idea: Introduce Communities of Practice at Alumni level

- would be good to have a specialist running the CoP. someone who knows the industry very very well - they know about the industry and about the “business” side of things for that CoP

- Invite Alumni members into CPCP CoP classes special guest speaker who is willing to share real life case study of their practice in that particular niche.

5. Build a Community Network

Idea: develop Alumni activities and technological tools to support that. Tools to include:

- ability to find each other by country, area of specialisation, interestes, previous profession etc.

6. Business Development Groups

Approach: There are so many ideas about the sorts of groups we could run - so many things to choose from - so we should keep it simple

Question: Why would you become involved in ICA Alumni:

1. to get support for my business
2. to be exposed to new ideas - coaching ideas, new tools
3. to feel like I am part of a bigger community

1. I would be involved in the school in whatever form that could be. would love to promote it
2. CoP”s
3. Business development

1. to be more involved with the school - guest speaker
2. CoP”s
3. Regional and face to face group

Idea: Once a year have a face to face event ???

3. Find a way to keep Alumni on track in building our businesses

Idea: Repeat peer coaching in alumni level (call for volunteer)
Idea: Develop a mentor program
Idea: Develop programs to deliver to other alumni
Idea: Find a way to enable Alumni members who are already running topic based teleclasses to offer them to students and other alumni

4. Structure of Alumni

ICA Global »

Project description

ICA Global is a long-term project to establish ICA as the world’s leading coach training company. In the first phase, we will offer the CPCP in four new languages: Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese and French. This will require translating all materials into those languages, sourcing qualified native language trainers, and determining formats for delivering the training. This will open us to new markets and establish us as experts in cross-cultural training.

Project Partners

We are looking for partners worldwide and have established contacts with universities in Latin America and Europe. In China we are also looking into potential partnerships.

Current alumni lending a hand to this project:

Maria Sinisterra, Ana Sarmiento, Ronny Van Staeyen and Felicia Lauw

Progress to Date (Feb 08)

The CPCP has been translated into Mandarin. We have initiated translations for Spanish and Portuguese and are looking for collaborators in these languages as well as French. In talks with universities about how to adopt our training into their extension programs.

We have also established forums in all four languages and are preparing to launch along with web landing pages in all four languages. (See links under “Global Forums”)

Where to from here?

We want to continue progress on translating our course material. At the same time, we need to begin to identify people who will be our trainers in those languages. We need to establish an overall strategy to answer questions such as, “What business models do we use?”, “Who do we want to partner with?”, “How will we deliver our program(s)?”, and “What markets offer the greatest potential growth?

Introducing our New Brand »

Project Description

About 2 years ago we decided that the ICA brand needed a facelift. The orange mortar board hat was selected in 2001 when the main thing we needed to communicate was seriousness, academic rigour and stability. It is fine, but not necessarily reflective of our current direction or our diverse community.

So after an exhaustive re-branding process we finally arrived at a look and feel that we think is a great fit for who we are and where we are going.

Where to From Here

We need to work out a strategy for communicating this new brand in the following order:

- all staff and graduates
- all students
- all subscribers and members
- general public

Anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to CoachPedia »

Three years ago we bought the domain http://www.CoachPedia.com
We have plans to develop a coaching resource using wiki technology. CoachPedia will hold peer reviewed and popular articles and will be open to the public for contribution, comment and editing. Our first task is to get clear on the vision for CoachPedia and to do this we want to establish an independant advisory board of about 6 to 7 people from all around the world. If you think you can contribute to this exciting initiative please comment below.

9 Lanterns

We are working with the Shanghai Office of this company to develop a new back end and front end to our online presence. A central part of this work is the development of an online searchable database of students and graduates.

Progress to Date (Feb 08)

We are currently in the mapping stage of the project. The project team at ICA are identifying all current IT processes and mapping out new processes. The team at 9 lanterns are starting the wireframes

Where to From Here?

We need to identify the features and functionality of the Online Directory. What do we want it to do? What will it be used for?

We also need to gather examples of other online directories and for each one state what we like about it and what we dont like.

Welcome to Coaching Culture »

Some thoughts by Bronwyn Bowery-Ireland….
Who is the program for?
In my mind the program is for companies who want to bring about a coaching culture. As a process it can also be used in many other ways ie Alumni supervised coaching.

Who are its Clients?
The program would be delivered by a trainer and coach. Or this could be one person with both skill sets. Our client would be the trainer/coach. Their clients would be whoever they choose to deliver this program to.

What is their worldview?
The coach/trainers world view is that they believe the power of coaching skills and can see that a coaching philosophy can bring about a coaching culture. What they need is a marketing package that supports them in expressing the value of this product in current day business terms ie ROI so they can ’sell’ it to new clients or their employer.

Unmet needs?
We have many students and graduates and also companies who come to us asking for a package to implement in their workplace. The needs they have expressed are usually around the need for coaching tools and materials. Students and graduates tell us that their ICA experience has been positive and they want to take the experience and materials to their clients or company. They also need support as they may be alone in doing this. They want to connect up with like minded people.

What they want as an experience?
They want to feel empowered, innovative, creative and supported. They want to be leading edge. They recognise that the intangible experiences hold great value and they want to be able to market this and be with like minded people.

Supervised Coach »

Project Description

Coaching Supervision is a program set up to give graduates the opportunity to practice their coaching in a supervised context. It will operate in a similar fashion to existing Supervised Coach course but will be run in small self-forming groups or clusters
